The rules and regulations
governing residency in University halls of residence are as set forth below.
Infringement of nay of them is an offence punishable by ejection or suspension
from residence, or by any other sanction (such as the imposition of a surcharge)
that the University authorities may deem appropriate.
1.
Visiting hours shall be between 4.00pm and 8.00pm from
Monday to Friday, and from 8.00am to 8.00pb on Saturdays and Sundays. Visitors
to hall of residence must sign the visitors’ book and be received and/or
entertained in hall common rooms only.
2.
Residents each owe, and must at all times display a
duty of care for the feelings, sensibilities, welfare, and safety of their
fellow residents.
3.
Cult activities are strictly forbidden; similarly for
rape, stealing, and pilfering.
4.
Storage, sale or use in halls of residence of any of
the following is absolutely prohibited: explosive materials, acid; dangerous
weapons, chemicals or equipment; liquid intoxicants or liquor; offensive and
dangerous drugs; any item prohibited or forbidden by law.
5.
acts of hooliganism and other conducts likely to cause
a breach of the peace such as engaging in physical combat, shouting at the top
of the voice, and causing a nuisance with electronic gadgets or with
religious/cultural observances in halls of residence are strictly forbidden.
6.
No student shall willfully or unlawfully damage any
property in the halls.
7.
There shall be no squatting or transfer of bed-spaces
in residence halls, and no students is permitted to remove any of the beds or
wardrobes therein.
8.
No student may sublet his/her room or bed-space, or
obtain his/her room or bed-space through impersonation.
9.
Electrical outlets must not be overloaded with heavy
duty gadgets or appliances like heaters, hot plates, and extension cords.
Ironing of clothes should be done on boards or platforms provided outside the
rooms, and all washing and drying of clothes must be done in hall laundries.
Wet clothes should not be hung in lines provided in laundries or in designed
places on the premises of each hall of residence.
10.
Damaged water or electrical installations must be
promptly reported to Porters, and on no account should any residents embark on
repairing such damaged items on their own.
11.
As all residents have a duty to attend to and maintain
the cleanliness of their surroundings, there shall be no defecating or
urinating on hall premises, and having or bath and brushing or teeth may not be
done other than in bathrooms.
12.
Refuse may only be dumped in dustbins and not
indiscriminately on hall premises.
13.
No students may climb the hall water tank or tamper
with it fro any reason whatsoever.
14.
Visitors’ books and official records of students’
journeys away from their halls of residence shall be kept for security
purposes. Whenever students are going out of their halls of residence, they
must drop their room keys at the Porter’s Lodge. Failure to do this is
punishable, particularly; if the door concerned has to be forced open by the
Hall Management.
15.
All complaints by residents must be routed through the
Hall Manager to the Wardens and then to the Student Affairs Office.
16.
No private vehicles other than those belonging to
residents may remain on hall premises beyond the official visiting hour.
17.
Perfect silence and decorum must be maintained in and
around hall reading rooms.
18.
No smoking is allowed in residence halls.
19.
No vendors or hawkers are allowed within residence
halls.
20.
Residents must carry their student’s identity card at
all times.
21.
Walls in halls of residence must not be defaced with
posters, handbills etc.
22.
Students wishing to remain in their halls of residence
during vacations must apply to the Dean of Student Affairs through the Hall
Manager and the Hall Warden in that order, and obtain permission to do so in
writing.
23.
On the termination of tenancy at the end of the
session, residents must completely vacate their rooms, and shall be held liable
for any damage subsequently discovered in such rooms.
