1ST CONVOCATION CEREMONY, FEBRUARY 2007
GOODWILL MESSAGE FROM THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

On behalf of the entire graduates of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko, formerly Ondo State University, Ado-Ekiti/Akungba-Akoko.  I Stand here to appreciate God and our founding fathers, Late Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin and Chief Adebayo Adefarati, our present father and Visitor, Dr. Olusegun Kokumo Agagu, the past and present Chairmen and members of our Governing Council, past and present Vice-Chancellors (including those who acted at one time or the other) and Principal Officers as well as our dedicated and erudite lecturers, for the opportunity we have to have passed through this citadel of learning.

Mr. Visitor Sir, this University has come through thick and thin but what we have today clearly shows the commitment of the government to make sure that the labours of our past heroes are and never will be in vain.  We appreciate the sporadic development of physical infrastructures on this campus since the inception of your administration.

However sir, we pray for the re-establishment of the Faculty of Engineering and the establishment of other Faculties like Medicine and Agricultural Sciences.  If done, that will help the University to provide more services to the State and Nation, at large.

To you, fellow Alumni, I know you have gotten the best tutelage from this institution, the best State University in Nigeria, in terms of quality of academic staff.  We know many of us will soon hit it right in the private and public sectors as well as in politics.  In fact, some are already hitting it right.  I implore you to always look back, when things are getting better, and lend a hand to help the Council and Management of the University in building a first class citadel of learning in Akungba-Akoko.  We need to organize ourselves to donate buildings and gadgets to various departments of the University.  We need to reduce the over dependence on Government for Subventions and help build an autonomous Institution.

In the mean time, we are already building up an alumni data bank which will be computerized and placed on the net.  The information will include contact addresses and telephone/GSM numbers of all members.  An alumni centre will also be built and we hope to commission that before the end of the year.

I wish to seize this opportunity to inform you that we will hold a General Meeting this year for the purpose of electing national officers.  This will hold on Saturday, December 1, 2007.  The choice of which date is hinged on the historic relocation of our University to Akungba-Akoko on December 1, 1999.

To our royal fathers her present, our lords temporal and spiritual, and even our uncles/aunts and friends in the private and public sectors, we will soon come knocking at your doors for assistance towards the upliftment of our association and the University at large.

Mr. Visitor Sir, (protocol) I wish you well.

Thank you for reading.

Temitope Olumuyiwa (Ph.D)
